#JCaliBlog: 60th Grammys 2018 Favorite Looks

From Kendrick Lamar's political opening performance featuring U2, or Kesha's emotional Praying performance joined by some of music's notable talents, the 60th annual Grammys was filled with so much to discuss. One of the highlights of the night was how celebrities came together to continue efforts in shining a light on the Time's Up initiative #MeToo movement started at the Golden Globes. This time the movement started by Voices in Entertainment, which called for artist to wear a white rose with their red carpet looks, adding a musical symbolic twist to the black dress attire (as seen at the Golden Globes red carpet). The white rose was chosen as it signifies, hope, peace, sympathy, and resistance. Another highlight was that after 15 years, the Grammys were making their way back to the big apple, New York City (specifically Madison Square Garden). To start off one of music's most important nights, it all starts with the red carpet and here are my favorite looks of the night.

Zayn Malik

Always a fashion favorite, Zayn Malik hasn't been seen in recent red carpets but this moment could not be missed. Highlighting the popular millennial pink trend, and in a way bringing it back (like it ever left), Zayn chose the perfect tux for a night in which most men go with the typical white and black suit. Courtesy of Richard James, the pink suit featured the white rose embroidered into the suit. This just exuded the out of the box and detail factor that many overlook. Plus, he was able to not over do it, by pairing the suit with a traditional white collar shirt. Simple, stylish, and sleek - way to go Zayn!

SZA

Nominee for Best New Artist, SZA knew how to make an arrival at the 60th annual Grammys. In an atelier Versace gown, SZA highlighted the modern romance trend that will hit the streets this Spring/Summer. What I loved most of this look was the dramatic sleeves, plus a sexy slit that was draped by the overflowing metallic fabric. Just felt very effortless yet princess like, this was her moment.

Chainsmokers

Now these gentlemen know how to make a group arrival. In custom Valentino tuxedos, that highlighted both members personality while adding a classic touch, it was a great way to compliment one another. Andrew Taggart paired a classic cream blazer with Valentino logo on the back, and black ensemble that made the whole look just feel natural, especially complimenting and highlighting his funky hair. Alex Pall went for the classic all black ensemble but here come the details, polka dot bow tie, and white trim on the blazer. Talk about attention to details!

Zuleyka Rivera

If you know me, then you know I love some sparkle - especially on the red carpet, and former Miss Universe (2006) Zuleyka Rivera made that carpet glow. In a Giannina Azar dress, this look exuded sensuality and sophistication. With the details looking like Zuleyka was dipped in silver, the metallic touch started from the neck and worked its way down to her feet, highlighting parts in metallic and others in nude. Plus I think with this dress, fit for a Miss Universe, the sparkly belt was a good detail to add dimension to her already standout look.

Janelle Monae

Another one of my favorite fashion trends is the pantsuit. When done right it looks so timeless on a red carpet, and stars such as Janelle Monae, Anna Kendrick, and Eve hit the mark. Starting with Janelle Monae, in a Dolce & Gabbana ensemble she highlighted the floral embroidery that has been seen everywhere. With the colorful floral touches making their way from blazer to pants, it was brought together with her bowtie and white shirt.

Anna Kendrick

Now, Anna Kendrick always brings a fresh look to her red carpet arrivals and this wasn't any different. Dressed in a Balmain suit that featured shoulder details, gold buttons, and gingham print she added her millennial touch with pink pumps and a lace top. Plus the side hair detail always looks stunning and effortless on her.

Eve

Finally closing out the pantsuit trend is Eve. In a Naeem Khan suit, Eve also paired her look with side hair but she pushed the limits going for metallic striped blazer, pants, and a detailed necklace. The reason I decided to put Janelle Monae, Anna Kendrick, and Eve back to back is because it's a great way to show how each artist personalized their look. So incase you can't afford a Dolce & Gabbana suit, I know I can't, these are some ways to get inspiration for how to recreate the look in your own style.

Andra Day

Talk about a way to standout, Andra Day also featured a suit trend but this time in a Victoria Hayes dress. The lilac and red ensemble, is so out of the box and in a way too matchy but if anybody can make it work, it is Andra Day. I think it was a good way to play on her style of very classic and 90s/80s vibe with the tuxedo high-slit dress and still add her funky twist with the color palettes. Plus, she was amazing standing side by side with other women for Kesha's performance of Praying.
